Well established
US SELLER
WITH FAST SHIPPING - overall more than 150 sold with very satisfied buyers - I also include an installation hint sheet w your purchase and ship w USPS tracking.
For sale is one (1) NEW generic plastic 9 tooth small gear use to repair your vintage Big Mouth Billy Bass Singing Fish - Head Turning. It may possibly also be used to replace the motor gear that runs the lips and tail - see below 'PLEASE NOTE' paragraph. The similar singing Travis Trout and/or Catfish, as well as some other Gemmy products, may also use this same gear - read below to determine if the fish head turning or other actions went out because of this gear.
It is well known that as the vintage Billy Bass units age they may experience a broken/split plastic gear on the motor shaft that splits due to age and the plastic drying out. While the fish still sings and flaps the tail, the broken gear will not permit the head to turn outward when singing portions of the song. Similarly, sometimes the head may turn but the lips and/or tail movements become inoperable.
I replaced the split gear on the motor shaft of a 1999 Big Mouth Billy Bass Christmas Edition whose head did not turn outward using one of these same gears; and the head then turned properly during portions of the singing. I did disassemble the fish to confirm that this gear was indeed split and the cause of the head not turning prior to purchasing a replacement gear. The total replacement only took me about 30 minutes once I had the new gear in hand.
There are several videos on youtube that give instructions on how to disassemble the Big Mouth Billy Bass singing fish and access the small motor to do the gear replacement. One of them I watched was entitled "How to Repair your Big Mouth Billy Bass Head Movement". There are several others also available on youtube. The head turning gear replacement is similar in the singing Travis Trout and Catfish. In addition to Billy Bass you can search on these other fish type of terms as well as animatronic singing fish or novelty singing fish, etc. to find more videos.
Whichever fish you have - You should verify that the gear on the motor shaft is split and the cause of the movement not operating; as well as that the specifics and dimensions shown below match your fish's gear before ordering; as there are no refunds after the sale. As noted this gear was an exact fit for the head turning motor shaft gear on the 1999 Christmas Edition of the Big Mouth Billy Bass Singing Fish that I repaired.
Please see youtube for video instructions - as noted above there are numerous videos regarding the motor shaft gear replacement on the singing Billy Bass, Travis Trout, Catfish, etc. You have to be at least a bit handy to do this repair - please reference the videos before attempting a repair. Any repairs are at the sole risk of the purchaser and/or the person doing the repair. If you are not careful you may damage other components and the fish may not operate. The gear will be tight when installing on the motor shaft - care must be taken to slide it on slowly and carefully and locate it in the same position on the motor shaft as the original one - you can take a cell phone picture before removing the old gear to reference when doing the replacement.
PLEASE NOTE - some buyers have told me they have used this gear to also replace the motor shaft gear that is used to run the lip movement and/or tail flapping. This gear would only be for replacement of the small motor shaft gear if it is found to be split for those movements. I've had several buyers buy three gears at the same time to replace all 3 of the motor shaft gears at once since they are already taking the fish apart to replace one of them. I no longer have a Billy Bass to verify this, however if a potential buyer is already taking the fish apart to confirm if the head moving gear is split, it should be pretty easy for them to also look at the lip and tail motor gears to validate their condition and size. Care must be taken during any disassembly so as to not disrupt the other gears in the gear train which could cause the fish to become inoperable.
Specifics:
New plastic replacement head turning motor shaft gear used for repair of head turning on a vintage 1999 era Big Mouth Billy Bass Singing Fish by Gemmy Industries of Irving, TX. Subject to verification by the purchaser as noted above, the gear may also fit the singing Travis Trout and/or Catfish or others by Gemmy Industries; and/or be utilized to replace split gears on the lip and/or tail motor shafts.
Quantity –> sale is for one - 9 ToothGear - see photos
+/- 7/32” outer diameter +/- 5/32” tall
1.95mm ce
