Reward offered in hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian in Newark 3 years ago

Authorities in Essex County are offering a $5,000 Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver who fatally struck a 42-year-old man in Newark three years ago.
Rajon Collins, of Newark, was hit by a red Jeep Grand Cherokee on Sept. 12, 2021, near the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 18th Street, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators said the vehicle was stolen and traveling at high speeds when it struck Collins, who was pronounced dead less than an hour later after the crash at University Hospital.
The vehicle also slammed into a parked car, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Surveillance footage from the area shows two people fleeing from the vehicle after the crash, investigators said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the prosecutor’s tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
